Absolutely β youβre on the right track! Letβs walk through step-by-step how to turn your ILR into a fully functional and learner-friendly blog post on your EdTech WordPress site.
π§ STEP 1: Structure the Blog Post Like an Interactive Module
Start by thinking of your blog as an online learning experience β not just a wall of text.
Hereβs a suggested outline for your ILR blog:
β 1. Welcome Section (already started)
This is where you set the tone.
π **Welcome to our Learning Module on Implicit Bias**
This interactive module is designed for high school students (Grades 10β12) and aims to help you explore your own biases, understand the science behind them, and think critically about their impact.
π Estimated time: 60β90 minutes
π¦ What youβll need: Internet access, speakers/headphones, a quiet space, and your curiosity!
π Click the button below to begin!
Add a button (youβve done this already) that says something like:
[Start the Module]
Use a WordPress “Toggle” or “Accordion” block to reveal the next section only after they click. Most themes or plugins like Kadence Blocks or Elementor offer this. If not, you can simulate it by linking to anchor text (see “advanced tips” at the bottom).
β 2. Step-by-Step Learning Activities
Use headings, embedded links, and clear instructions. Here’s how each section could look:
π§ Step 1: What Is Implicit Bias?
Instructions:
Start by sharing what you already know. Use the Jamboard to brainstorm with your classmates or think independently.
- π Jamboard Brainstorm Sheet (insert the link to your editable Jamboard template)
- π Read: Excerpt from Greenwald & Krieger (2006) β PDF link
Key Questions:
- What is implicit bias?
- How is it different from explicit prejudice?
π₯ Step 2: Watch βA Class Dividedβ
Instructions: Watch the video in parts or all at once.
- π¬ Watch the full video on YouTube
- π As you watch, jot down moments that stood out or made you uncomfortable.
Tip: Captions are available. A transcript can be found here (upload if needed).
π¬ Step 3: Take the Implicit Association Test (IAT)
Instructions: Take the test privately. Choose a test that feels relevant (race, gender, etc.).
After taking it, complete a reflection:
- βοΈ Google Form: Reflection Exit Ticket (link to your reflection form or Flipgrid)
𧩠Step 4: Real-Life Examples
Instructions: Read and discuss two case studies. Label the biases and discuss their impact.
Optional: Share your insights in the discussion board or in class.
π³οΈ Step 5: Reducing Bias
Instructions: Read the tip sheet and rank your top strategies.
- π Tip Sheet PDF
- π Vote using Mentimeter (or simulate with a Google Form)
π¨ Step 6: Final Reflection Artifact
Instructions: Choose how you want to respond.
Create a short essay, poem, comic, video, or infographic answering this:
βWhatβs one way you plan to reduce bias in your life or community?β
- Upload your artifact to [Google Drive/Padlet/Flipgrid/etc.]
